University of Dundee Life Sciences Innovation Hub

Scheduled to open in 2024, the Life Sciences Innovation Hub is a new 4,000m2 medicine research laboratory located on brownfield land in the heart of Dundee, immediately adjacent to the University of Dundee main campus.

Client

University of Dundee

Location

Dundee

Principal Contractor

Robertson Construction

The project is forecasted to support over 280 new life sciences jobs by 2033 and deliver over £190million of benefit to the local economy.

The Hub will provide flexible laboratory space and offices for tenants in addition to reception, meeting room, welfare and parking facilities.

Our scope comprised superstructure works including:

  • Pre-cast columns
  • PT slabs (design by Careys)
  • Cores
  • Walls
  • Pre-cast stairs

A team of 40 managed the fast-paced 14-week programme where precision logistics management was vital to ensure critical timelines were met for the client. To minimise risk, good planning and early engagement between Careys, Robertson, the structural engineer and our subcontractors and supply chain partners (particularly pre-cast) was key.

This facility will allow us to establish a pipeline that capitalises on the quality of the research we conduct here, translating that into social and economic benefits for the region and to the health of people around the world
