Careys has been contracted by Sirius Minerals to serve as principal contractor for the beginning phases of the Woodsmith Mine project in Whitby, Yorkshire. Due to be completed in late 2021, this approximately £3bn venture – which is located in a pristine national park set more than 200m above the north-eastern coast of England – will be the largest mining operation in the UK.

This weekend at the One Nine Elms project in Vauxhall, London, Careys Civil Engineering successfully completed one of our largest continuous concrete pours ever – pouring 4,852m3. That’s equivalent to over 650 trucks of concrete. We also installed 1,400t of rebar reinforcement and 11,000 shear rails. Our meticulous planning and preparation enabled us to deliver this record-setting concrete pour, which trumped our previous, substantial continuous concrete pour of 4,500m3 – at Marchwood Power Station in 2007.

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary this year, we’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come. Over the past five decades, we’ve grown from driving to our first projects in London in a single transit van to helping to build some of the UK’s most recognisable landmarks.

This week Careys Foundation welcomed an eye-catching new addition to the Carey Group - Hope, the Hitachi Zaxis 225 excavator, which has been spray-painted pink to raise funds and awareness for Breast Cancer Now, one of Careys Foundation’s charity partners in 2019.

The digital engineering experts of Careys Design Team sit at the forefront of our innovative approach to designing projects. This week we spoke with a member of Careys Design Team – Geotechnical Engineer, Chris Chappell – about his role, his favourite project and the future of design in construction.

We’re excited to announce that Careys Foundation will be supporting ‘Around the World at 80’, the charitable challenge in aid of Alzheimer’s Society, the UK’s leading dementia support and research charity. Celebrating their upcoming 80th birthdays, Jim and Dot Jones will circumnavigate the globe this spring. They will cross an impressive span of 20 countries in a single engine aircraft.

Careys has been awarded the prestigious BIM Level 2 accreditation by the British Standards Institution (BSI). This certification acknowledges our ability to successfully use Building Information Modelling (BIM) to deliver – in our capacity as principal contractor or sub-contractor – a wide range of civil engineering and design and build projects, across commercial, residential and public sectors.

On Saturday 26th January 2019, Careys Civil Engineering Project Manager, David Moriarty, will attempt to conquer Argentina’s Mt Aconcagua – the highest mountain in both the Southern and Western Hemispheres. David will take on the 26-day challenge to scale this 6,960m mountain in support of Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
