National Apprenticeships Week - Meet Isaac

The theme for this year's week is 'Look Beyond' with the aim to encourage everyone to look beyond outdated stereotypes surrounding apprenticeships and celebrate the diversity of opportunity and value that they bring. This week, our second Q&A is with Isaac Lopez - apprentice plant fitter working with Careys Plant & Fleet, who gave us an insight on his apprentice experience with us.

When did you join Careys?

I joined Careys in November 2016.

What qualification are you working towards? Do you study alongside work?

I’m working towards achieving an NVQ Level 3 in Fabricating and Welding. I learn a lot of technical skills and knowledge in the work environment as well as studying alongside work.

What have you found the most challenging?

The most challenging aspect I’ve found during my apprenticeship is trying to have a good work/life balance.

What’s are you most proud of since starting your apprenticeship at Careys?

What’s the most valuable skill you’ve learnt?

My most valuable skill is maintaining high standards in an environment with deadlines to work to and high temperatures to work in. This is especially true in summertime when you are in full gear and personal protective equipment (PPE)!

Where do you hope to see your career going in the future?

My goal at the moment is to achieve my NVQ Level 3 and a few weld codings with Careys. Once this is complete, I would like to explore the side of weld testing and weld inspecting, but there is so much more to learn in the world of welding who knows where it will take me.
