My leadership style is about living our values and never being silent about the hard things. Being who I am and creating a sense of belonging for all our people and a place where they feel seen, heard and valued gives me energy every day.

The Carey Group has been a part of my whole life, watching my father, Pat, and uncles grow the business from as early as I can remember. Working on our sites started as a teenager for me, spending school and university holidays working alongside the great people that make this company what it is today. Studying engineering at university gave me a solid foundation in the theory of engineering but I always preferred the sites over the lecture hall and after graduating, entered the business in 1999 as a site engineer at Paddington Central.
I worked my way up through the ranks of the business gaining a broad range of civil engineering and management experience and was privileged to get to work on some of our most complex and significant projects (working on the London Olympics in 2012 was a highlight – a real game changer for me). In 2012 I was made Managing Director of Careys, then appointed as Chief Operating Officer, and in 2020 had the honour of becoming the Group Chief Executive Officer.
My role is to embed our strategy across the Group and make sure that our vision, mission, values and behaviours, and strategic goals are at the heart of everything we do. Although the Carey Group is a small cog in a much larger wheel, we have a responsibility to make sure that it is a special and unique place for our employees, clients, suppliers, sub-contractors and for the communities we work in, and through the successful execution of our strategy I believe we will be successful at this.
As well as securing the long-term health and sustainability of the Carey Group, I also believe we have a role to play in driving our industry forward and so I’m a member of Build UK in order to advocate inclusivity in all forums within which we participate. I also contribute to the wider leadership community through participation of a programme called Changemakers, which is run by the Centre for Synchronous Leadership whose mission is to provide leadership insights, transformation and community.
